Micler and Rosiane Louis were operating a successful business in south Florida when God called them back to the island of La Gonâve, Haiti. They had grown up on the island before moving to the U.S. as refugees, Micler growing up in the port city of Anse-à-Galets and Rosiane in the area of Trou Louis, in the western part of the island. God brought them back to where Rosiane grew up to begin a church, school, and home for children in need. They named this place Bethesda, which means “House of Mercy.”
Our Bethesda church, school, and orphanage are located in the northwestern portion of the island of La Gonâve. La Gonâve sits just off the Haitian coastline, about 75 miles northwest of Port-au-Prince. The people on this small, mountainous island are faced with many difficulties, including rampant disease, limited drinking water, and lack of government infrastructure.
